Interview with Dr Shirley Yeung
Things in my life are episodes that are worth being presented in an artistic way with educational values to sustain and transform.

We see so many troubles, so much grief people cause each other, destroy everything, destroy nature, animals, destroy themselves…
When I draw, my soul enters another world, I create this world myself, it gives me the strength to live on, and I want to open this positive to other people.
My art serves as an escape from routine and worries, transporting viewers to a fantasy world. By transcending familiar forms and situations, I aim to stimulate imagination and evoke a sense of emotional and physical connection with nature. Drawing brings me a state of harmony, and I strive for that feeling to permeate my paintings.
In recent years, I have been actively engaged in studying a person through a portrait, which leaves an imprint on the face of life experience, tragedies, successes, and compassion. For me, each new portrait is another step towards the true self and true freedom.
In my artwork, I capture the deep relationship between nature, humanity, and the legacy we leave behind. I seek to magnify their significance with my brushstrokes.
My works are a textile painting created from natural fibers on a wool canvas. In fact, I am engaged in painting with the help of textiles because instead of paints, I work with living organic material, which I transform into another substance with my imagination.
Ryota Matsumoto is an artist, educator, and architect based in New York and Tokyo. Born in Tokyo, he was raised in Hong Kong and Japan. He received a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2007 after his studies at the Architectural Association and Mackintosh School of Architecture, the Glasgow School of Art.
Drawing from imagination, I paint euphoric, richly textured floral canvases and collage-like psychedelic dreamscapes that interpret the essence of the natural world and the human spirit. Colors have the power to alter our state of mind, so I strive to inspire joy with vibrant hues, by sharing my own happiness and emotions with the viewers.
My work is the language of lines and color on canvas, conveying emotions, bringing light to the audience, and touching the soul. Art is my life.
Everyone is born with the basic goodness to illuminate the inner souls of others, open secreted dreams of those occluded, and deliver an impact to the world. I myself hope to bring art as a connecting line for liminal spaces that ignite the spark for simplistic hope, tenderness, and generosity within society.
