I explore certain moments in life, and what they are made of. Gestures, movements, looks, and something else: elusive but tangible and precise, a silence of concentration, an inner contemplation of reflection.
Statement
I started looking at painting as my only option when I realized that anything else I would be doing would be worse, and I was no longer interested in anything but painting. It was a conscious and mature choice, after many years of work as a graphic designer.
Today, my work focuses on people. I explore certain moments in life, and what they are made of. Gestures, movements, looks, and something else: elusive but tangible and precise, a silence of concentration, an inner contemplation of reflection. I am moved by scenes of in-depth relationships and subtle intimacy. Themes of female nature, family, maturing, and childhood. Every so often I reveal something personal, like my son. Sometimes I am just guided by what I see.
My primary modes of expression are oil painting, drawing, mixed media, and collage. I do many sketches from life, which is the basis of all my work. It brings me back to a permanent state, in my own unique space and time.
Expression, spontaneity, something pulsating, not obvious and accomplished – that’s what I’m after. This is the only way for creativity to have its own voice and nerve. Because art is not about form, meaning, or aesthetics. It is a way of thinking, a path.
